Twin Beach

In the light of our new sun the clouds glowed

Before the moon was towed here from the desert and fixed in place to the sky like a bronze plaque on a brick wall
Before the hand of Isis passed to grace us and pull a soft veil in front of our seablind eyes Before the reign of the children of the stars and the heavens and the galaxy, set into motion by the poet's grainy hand and the preacher's heavy book

“There is something you should know”, the birds called

The heart shaped wind cracked and screamed, and their words floated around listlessly and scattered, climbing and falling, rushed and halted by the air

You could feel the waves swaying and swirling back and forth, a boat of life and love in the sea of heaven
You could hear the horses of drowned ships approach, bearing down and riding through the foggy thick of morning

You could sit in the road of the moment, dodging cars and tanks and submarines, just waiting for the sun to flatten on the line of the choppy, angel-clad skies ahead

“We have seen this all before”, the birds rasped

And the voices became quieter and softer still, until their declarations of repetition were duplicated over and over and we couldn't tell what was living sound and what was a memory

And like a seed, tiny in dreams, and grown to a giant mountain upon waking, the world spun

All these iterations nested together, living concurrently as separate events and dots on a broad horizon
All moments, thought to be fixed in the hazy light of a frozen monument, they sit braided like a basket, carrying the truth of our lives

"So many times we've carried you"; sparrows and grackles and robins swirling and leading
"And so many times you've wandered"

The earth rolled up as shades of a window and the blank stare of God bore down, unflinching and raw, light showering down with the heavy grey love of a million years
